Dental Crowns

?What are dental crowns

Crowns (Caps) are a type  of dental restoration which , when cemented into place , fully cup over the portion of a tooth that lies at and above the gum line. In comparison ,filling are dental restorations that fill in or cover over just a portion of a tooth

Since dental crowns encase  the entire visible aspect of a tooth, a dental crown in effect becomes the tooth 's new outer surface .

Crowns can be made out of porcelain (meaning some sort of dental ceramic) , metal( a gold or other metal alloy),or a combination of both . Other terms that are used to refer to dental crowns are "dental caps" and "tooth caps" .

?What types of dental crowns

:There are

1Traditional ceramic crown (takes a color of natural teeth ): it is composed of two layers :the inner layer is metallic whilst the outer layer is ceramic

2Metal-free ceramic crowns – complete porcelain crowns (It is the more beautiful):complete porcelain crowns are the innovations of modern aesthetic dentistry. In opposition to traditional crowns ,which contain a metal frame, the complete porcelain crowns do not contain metal at all.

3There are also crowns do not contain a layer metallic, and also is not completely ceramic , but it is a mixture of ceramic and Materials similar to composite

?Why do teeth need dental crowns

A dentist might recommend placing a dental crown for a variety of reasons but , in general, most of these reasons will usually fall within one of the following basic  categories

1To protect a weak tooth (for instance, from decay) from breaking or to hold together parts of a cracked tooth

2To restore an already broken tooth or a tooth that      has been severely worn down

3To cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there  is not a lot of tooth left

4To hold a dental bridge in place

5To cover misshapened or severely discolored teeth

 6To cover a dental implant

7To improve the cosmetic appearance of a tooth

?What's the difference between dental crowns and bridges

Dental crowns and bridges have been useful in correcting and  protecting teeth .

There are several different kinds of it and have different functions.

Crown is a single piece for a single tooth , is used for teeth which its pulp was removed . Contrasted with the dental bridges , which is several connected pieces with some to make up for the one tooth .

?There  are people suffer from dental bridges problems  … What is the reason

:There are several reasons such as

-Lack of dental care that leads to gathering of leftovers , the reason that leads to appearance of caries under the dental bridge and crown .

-Another problem with dental bridges are when there's a space between the trimmed tooth and the bridges. When this gap or space problem occurs , the tooth is not completely covered as it's required to be .

-The space , in addition , can cause more problems . For instance , since  the tooth is not covered, the trimmed tooth is a prime target for tooth decay and cavities

-A porcelain fracture can also cause  dental-bridge problems . The fracture is a hairline break in the dental bridge .This problem can occur for two different reasons. For instance , the dental laboratory can have a processing error, and a mistake can be made in how the dental bridge  was created . However, mistakes can also happen before the information is sent to the laboratory.

Your dentist can misjudge the mechanics of your bite. Nevertheless, a porcelain fracture can be a combination of mistakes of the dentist and of the laboratory.
